RJ Garcia was drawn to CrossFit back in 2006 as an efficient way to develop fitness for his practice of martial arts. CrossFit’s diverse set of training methods and its ability to bridge the gap between basic training and elite performance got him hooked.
In studying the whys and hows of improving fitness, and with his past experience as a martial arts instructor, it was a natural step forward for him to start coaching others in fitness. After 5 years working as a software developer, he became a CrossFit Level 1 trainer in 2011 and opened CrossFit Insurrecto in 2012. His passion for learning continues, his studies with CrossFit Weightlifting (2013), CrossFit Gymnastics (2014), CrossFit Mobility (2015), USA Weightlfitng Sports Performance (2013), the Freestyle Connections Seminar (2015), and the Gymnastics Bodies Seminar (2016).
“It’s very rewarding to see people empower themselves and discover what their bodies are capable of doing. It’s a big part of personal growth, and I think this physical aspect of our lives gets lost on most of us. We get caught up on what we have and how we look, but how we feel and how we move are very intimate parts of our being. Improving these can boost our mindset and help us be better in other aspects of our lives.”
Outside of the gym, RJ enjoys the occasional bucket of barbecue-flavoured French fries while watching the latest movie.
Coach Jamie is a CF-L1 certified trainer and fellow partner of CrossFit Insurrecto.
Apart from serving as his resident box’s over-all geek, he is also Insurrecto’s in-house Physical Therapy consultant as well as its interior designer, having both degrees under his belt. He has been CrossFitting for five years now and when not having a love-hate relationship with cake and everything sweet, he can often be found obsessing over the many life lessons one could draw from doing burpees, thrusters and the elusive double under.
Coach Gian Mercado is a certified L1 CrossFit trainer with a Kettlebell certification. He is also a strong competitor in various competitions in bodybuilding, CrossFit, powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting in the country for the past three years. He also coaches strength classes– where athletes are taught isolation exercises that help in addressing power leakages when doing functional movements.
In his free time, coach Gian enjoys wakeboarding, watching movies and hanging out with friends while also pursuing a degree in Dentistry.
Coach Jeff is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. He discovered CrossFit in 2012 and fell in love with how the program was able to push the boundaries of what a person’s body can do and became passionate in passing down his personal learnings across all athletes of various fitness levels.
He is also a Certified CrossFit Judge and renders his time in judging for local CrossFit competitions like The Fittest, Manila Throwdown, Battle of the Strongest, and in-box competitions.
“It is a joy that the things you do are those things that you are passionate about.” Aside from a CrossFit Trainer, Jeff is an online graphic designer by day; he is passionate in making layouts visually appealing and makes sure that the layouts he creates have been communicated effectively.
Jerome is a guy who loves squats, and wishes that squats would love him back. A certified Kettlebell Trainer, he also likes throwing weights around. As a CrossFit L1 coach, he likes to push people to do more than they’re used to, but knows when to back off and let them do their thing. He’s as easygoing as he is shy, and he will always greet you with a smile.
Jason has seen firsthand how CrossFit and its community empowers people to make life-turning changes. He was not always as passionate about health and fitness until he learned about CrossFit Insurrecto back in 2013.
So ardent about the functional methodology of CrossFit, he soon joined the community and yielded results for himself.
He finds time to balance work on his export business and coaching so he can share his knowledge though years of experience in training to whoever wants to be a better version of themselves. He understands that fitness is a lifelong pursuit and he will give you the compassion, care, and training tools to achieve your fitness goals safely and efficiently. He’s also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.
Coach Mark is a CrossFit Level 1 trainer with over 5 years of coaching experience. Prior to CrossFit, Mark played competitive tennis and football in his collegiate days. Outside of the box, Mark is an IT professional by day and his hobbies include cooking, calisthenics and lounging at home with his two dogs.
